Process Welcome to the
Poetry Jungle
STEP ONE
Individually, go to this site and build your "wildself". When you are done, you will print, and put this page in your poetry folder. This will be the first page in your Collection.
STEP TWO
With your partner, watch the Poetry Terms PowerPoint. Before you begin, you will need to print out the notes page and fill it out as you watch. Next, print out Types of Poetry page work on these pages in groups of four. These notes will be included in your Collection.
STEP THREE
At this time, you will be assigned to a Poetry Jungle Bunch. You will investigate two forms of poetry on your own and then teach your Bunch about these poetry forms. Each member (out of a group if four) will choose a set of poetry forms to investigate.
The choices are:
1. Acrostic and Limerick
2.Concrete/Shape and Prepositional
3. Haiku and Autobiographical
4. Cinquain and Sense
STEP FOUR
Find at least one other classmate (but not more than two) who is investigating the same forms of poetry as you. Together look through the links for your two forms. Make sure you understand what you are writing! You will need to teach the members of your Bunch about the forms. Print the Poetry Expert Worksheet and follow the directions. Help each other write the two poems you are investigating. Each one will need to make sure you have your two poems written before moving on to teach someone else.
Each person needs their own worksheet.

STEP FIVE
When you are done investigating, and writing your two poetry forms, return to your Bunch. You will now take turns teaching each other about the eight poetry forms. Remember to use courtesy when someone else is talking; everyone is responsible for getting all of the information.
Each person needs to learn HOW to write these kinds of poems. He/she needs to see at least one example and write it down in their notes. Help the person you are teaching to write the poem you are teaching. If you do not understand, you will need to visit some of the websites from STEP FOUR.
STEP SIX
Time to have fun with poetry! We are now writing our own poems. Remember you have to have eight original poems in your Collection. Poetry, like other forms of writing, needs to go through the Writing Process.
1. Prewriting
2. First Draft
3. Revising
4. Editing
5. Final Draft
Sometimes it takes more than one time of revising and editing to get your writing the way you want it.
You will be creating a Word document for each of your poems. You need to save it on sharepoint. The document should be formatted with a size 12 or 14 font. It should only be done in black. Any font will have to be okayed by me.
STEP SEVEN
Once you have written and saved each of your eight poems, it is time to share them with one other person from your bunch for peer review.
Once someone has reviewed your writing, use their comments to make needed changes to your poetry. Don't forget to SAVE after making changes. Print each page, and add them to your poetry folder.
STEP EIGHT
Decide which one of your poems you are going to use for your Podcast.
